Absence Of Evidence Is Not Evidence Of Absence
Correlation Does Not Imply Causation
General Lack Of Evidence
It is important to be aware of when you are reasoning based on incomplete information; it is important to be aware of when you do not have enough evidence to go on. In the case of Mental Health problems, no person on the Exterior has access to sufficient evidence to understand what is going on in another person's Mind. Medical qualifications or degrees in psychology do not change this. The trouble is, once Mental Health disorders are considered medical problems, and their solution delegated to the medical profession, there is too much pressure for results placed upon the medical profession. Faced with this pressure, they do the best we can, and we should applaud them for this. But the trouble here is that we put too much pressure for results on people who, due to limitations of time and communication, can realistically never have sufficient evidence of a problem to work out what is going on and how to remedy it.
